My Special Morning Skin Care Routine for Glowing Skin

As the seasons shift and the chill of winter fades, so does my skincare approach. Spring is the perfect time to refresh and renew—not just your wardrobe, but your skincare routine too. My morning ritual evolves with the weather and the needs of my skin, and right now, it’s all about gentle exfoliation and building moisture with lighter, breathable layers.

But great skincare isn’t just about what you use—it’s how you use it. As a simple rule of thumb: always apply your products from lightest to heaviest. Want to know how that plays out in my spring morning routine? Keep reading.

Step 1: Cleanse with Water Only

I skip the cleanser in the morning and opt for a simple water rinse. Since I do a full cleanse at night—removing makeup and buildup—there’s no need to double down. In fact, my skin has never looked better than it does when I start my day with just water.

For those who want a little something extra, try a konjac sponge. It’s a gentle exfoliator made from konjac root, infused with natural clays to purify the skin without stripping its natural oils.

Step 2: Refresh with a Hydrosol (Toner)

After rinsing, I mist my face with a hydrating hydrosol. Think of this as a water-rich base layer that preps the skin for everything that follows. My favorites contain soft notes of rose or lavender—calming, fragrant, and great for helping active ingredients absorb better.

Step 3: Serums & Actives – The Doers

This is where the magic happens. I layer on a serum first—lightweight and packed with nutrients—then follow up with my actives. These are the targeted treatments (like salicylic acid or vitamin C) that address specific skin goals: brightening, smoothing, clarifying—you name it.

I give these products a few minutes to settle in, allowing them to do their job before moving on.

    Optional Step: Targeted Treatments

If I’m dealing with a pesky breakout or want to pamper my under-eyes, this is when I apply spot treatments or eye serums. These are highly focused, so I make sure they’re fully absorbed before continuing with the rest of my routine.

    Step 4: Lock in Moisture

Spring calls for hydration without heaviness. I skip creams and reach for whole plant-based facial oils or nourishing balms instead. I warm the product between my hands, then gently press and massage it into my skin using upward strokes—hello, mini spa moment.

This step not only seals in all the previous layers but also gives me a beautiful, dewy finish.

    Step 5: Protect with SPF

Even in Norway, sun protection is non-negotiable. If I’m heading out for a sunny day or some cross-country skiing, I use a non-nano mineral sunscreen—both eco-friendly and powerful against UV damage and hyperpigmentation.

I lightly pat it on as the final touch, almost like I’m sealing my morning ritual in place.

Skincare is personal, but the order in which you apply your products can make all the difference. This spring, I’m leaning into light layers, active ingredients, and protective finishes. Try this order and see how your skin responds—it might just surprise you.
